Dear RCS Families,
We know that recent news coverage and conversations about how law enforcement agencies are enforcing immigration laws may be causing concerns for some of our families. We want to reassure you that Rockingham County Schools (RCS) remains committed to providing a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment for all students. All children can attend and receive a public school education regardless of immigration status and RCS does not ask for or keep information about immigration status.
The safety and well-being of our students are always our top priorities. To ensure that every child feels secure and valued at school, we will continue to follow these important policies:
• Student Release Procedures: Students will only be released to verified parents, guardians, or approved adult family members.
• Parental Involvement in Law Enforcement Matters: If law enforcement needs to speak with a student, we will ensure they notify and involve parents/guardians and have all required court documentation before conducting an investigation.
• Protecting Student Privacy: We strictly follow federal privacy laws and Rockingham County Schools' School Board Policy 4700 - Student Records to safeguard student and family information.
Please know that our commitment to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment has not changed. Your child's well-being is at the heart of everything we do.
If you have any questions or concerns, we encourage you to reach out to your school principal or the district office. Thank you for your continued support and partnership in making our schools a safe place for every child.
