To express your interest in joining the SparkLab, visit Spark Lab Interest Form. Spots in the SparkLab are limited.
The SparkLab is open to all students in grades 8-12 in Rockingham County Schools!
SparkNC is a new way to do school. Each learner is in a lead role, following their interests, building the skills they want to learn, and charting their own path toward high-tech careers of their choice, all while earning high-school credit. Through the RCS SparkLab, every high school student has access to an inter-district network of teachers and tech industry partners to guide and shape their learning. To earn credit, learners will first complete the SparkNC Orientation Unit, then choose and complete six high-tech Units, and pull it all together with a final capstone project. Learners have the opportunity to complete SparkNC Units in three different ways: live, on-demand, and experiential.
Live Units are designed and led by SparkLab Leaders and industry experts in a live format either in-person or virtually in SparkLabs.
On-Demand Units on the SparkNC platform are available for learners to choose and complete at any time that works for them.
Experiential Units are live events and programs such as student conferences and summits, hack-a-thons, teamships, job shadowing and hands-on learning opportunities.
What We Do?
SparkNC helps students–orSpark Scholars–create their own pathways to high-tech fields. Our collaborative network of 17 North Carolina school districts each operate one or more SparkLabs that serve as physical hubs for a new kind of learning. Spark Scholars engage in three different types of learning experiences.
They choose among stackable units (mini-courses) that can be combined for high school credit. Along the way, Spark Scholars track their progress on SparkNC’s adaptive learning platform, build rich networks with industry professionals, and create robust portfolios of work to demonstrate their readiness for college and careers.
Who Are We?
SparkLab Leaders in each participating district advise and support students participating in SparkNC's interdistrict model. SparkNC supports SparkLab Leaders through the efforts of the core SparkNC Team, a small group of Strategic Advisors, SparkNC’s Business Advisory Council, and an amazing group of engaged and committed SparkNC Partners.
Stackable High Tech Units for High School Credit
SparkNC’s Unit Catalog offers more than 50 learning experiences (and growing!) related to high-tech fields..
Six Units, plus a required introductory module and a capstone experience, earns a local elective course credit toward high school graduation.
