For several locations across the county, Rockingham County Schools provides before and after school care through the Kids’ Companion Program. This program offers a safe and nurturing environment for school-age children (ages 5-12).
Children must start kindergarten before attending. Middle school students (up to age 12) can also participate if there is a bus to transport them to the site within their district.
The Kids’ Companion Program features age-appropriate activities, including group games, outside playtime, arts and crafts, and optional homework time. It offers children the opportunity to play and learn with friends, fostering a sense of community and belonging. Some sites even offer Themed Summer Camp programs, providing additional fun and educational opportunities during the summer months.
Overall, the Kids’ Companion Program is a valuable initiative by Rockingham County Schools, supporting families and contributing to the well-being and development of children in the community.
