The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) recently certified nine Rockingham County Schools teachers with their National Board Certification. National Board Certification is considered one of the highest credentials in the teaching profession and participation is voluntary. 

Being a newly certified National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) teacher signifies the teacher has met rigorous professional standards and demonstrated advanced teaching skills. It is an acknowledgment of a teacher’s dedication to the teaching profession and ability to promote student learning effectively.

Rockingham County Schools congratulates the following educators on their recent certification as National Board Certified Teachers:

  1. Ashley Caldwell:  Generalist/Early Childhood - Wentworth Elementary School

  2. Kendra Cumberland:  Exceptional Needs Specialist/Early Childhood through Young Adult - Director, Day Treatment

  3. Ashby Gentry:  Generalist/Early Childhood - Bethany Elementary School

  4. Erin Hughes:  Library Media/Early Childhood through Young Adulthood - Rockingham County High School

  5. Marieke Maccione:  Generalist/Early Childhood - Wentworth Elementary School

  6. Kristen Martin: Generalist/Early Childhood - John W. Dillard Academy

  7. Michelle McColl: Literacy: Reading-Language Arts/Early and Middle Childhood - Wentworth Elementary School

  8. Walter Moore III:  English as a New Language/Early Adolescence through Young Adulthood - Reidsville High School

  9. Caitlin Witherspoon:  Literacy: Reading-Language Arts/Early and Middle Childhood - Bethany Elementary School

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) recently recertified four Rockingham County teacher’s National Board Certification. Once certified, teachers must engage in the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) process. This process is designed based on best assessment practices and by teachers to ensure that National Board Certified Teachers continue to grow professionally while maintaining a strong impact on student learning.

MOC is the pathway for NBCTs to keep their certification active. Successfully meeting MOC requirements will extend an NBCT’s certificate by five years from their current certificate’s expiration date.

Our NBCT renewal teachers and newly National Board Certified Teachers will be recognized by the Rockingham County Board of Education with a certificate on January 13, 2025. We are so very proud of their National Board accomplishment!!
