On September 17, 1787, the Founding Fathers signed the U.S. Constitution. For over 200 years, the Constitution has served as the supreme law of the land. The Constitution, along with the Bill of Rights and other amendments, define our government and guarantee our rights. Each year, on September 17, Americans celebrate Constitution Day and Citizenship Day. In addition, September 17-23 is also recognized as Constitution Week. During this time, USCIS encourages Americans to reflect on the rights and responsibilities of citizenship and what it means to be a U.S. citizen.

A Message from RCS Dear Rockingham County Schools Families, First and foremost, we want to express our deepest condolences to the families affected by the recent tragic incident at Apalachee High School in Georgia. The shooting that occurred in Winder, GA is every educators' worst fear. The RCS community continues to pray for the Winder community. At RCS we continuously strive to make our schools as safe as we can. We believe our best defense is for each one of us to keep safety at the forefront of all we do. In the coming weeks we will learn what we can from this incident and make any needed adjustments. We understand the worries families have about the safety of your children while at school. The shooting at Apalachee was a random act of violence. While it is a challenge to predict or prevent such occurrences entirely, please know that we are committed to taking every possible measure to protect our students. Your child's safety is and always will be our top priority. Over the past two years, RCS has implemented, improved and upgraded several safety and security components. Some of the key improvements we have made to our Rockingham County Schools’ Comprehensive Safety and Security Plan are: access control and monitoring; emergency preparedness and response; on-site safety personnel, resources and weapons detection systems; safety inspections and assessments; and student well-being and a healthy school culture. Please know we remain committed to maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment for all of our students. While no school district, community or public entity is immune from senseless acts of violence despite our best efforts, we can do much to mitigate the potential. We will continue to look for ways to protect our students and staff to the best of our ability. We ask for Your continued involvement and support to help ensure the security and well-being of our school community. Together, we can ensure a safe and positive learning experience. Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education. Sincerely, Sean Gladieux Director of Safety Dr. Shawn Stover, III Superintendent

Good Evening Mustang Families, This is Mr. Bulla, Assistant Principal with your weekly announcements: - Please make sure you are connected on School Connect - formerly ClassTag. We have an Athletic Newsletter posted on Sunday evening and a monthly School Newsletter. If you need help connecting to School Connect, please contact Mrs. McCorkle! - Football will be taking team pictures on Monday, Sept. 9 and Cheerleaders will be taking pictures on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Coaches have handed out the picture sheets so ask your athlete about it. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. McCorkle. - New Roofing will be happening at Holmes Middle School. The parking spaces in the morning drop off area to the right of the school by the Big Tree will be off limits due to dumpsters being placed in these locations. Please refrain from parking in those spots. Car Rider pick up and drop off should not be impacted. - Any students who are interested in Student Leadership, please have those applications turned in to Mrs. Evans (6th grade) on Tuesday, September 10th. - This is a very important message pertaining to your rising 7th grade child’s immunization needs. All North Carolina 7th grade students are required to obtain two immunizations, Those are the TDAP and meningococcal vaccines. This immunization requirement is due no later than September 24, 2024. Any student not submitting their updated record by the deadline will be excluded from attending school until the record is received. We are working hard to avoid that situation. Please make plans for your child now by contacting your child’s health care provider or the Rockingham County Health Department. For any questions or more information, please contact our school nurse. - BUS Information for Monday: Bus 97 will be running during it's normally scheduled time. It will not be bus 343 in the morning. You should look for bus 97. Bus 185 should be running its NORMAL time and getting the students to school prior to 8:30. Please be on the lookout for these two changes. For afternoon buses, there is a bit of a delay in some of the routes, so buses may arrive home a little later than normal. Thank you for your support and as always if you have any questions please reach out to the school and remember, there's no place like Holmes! -- Justin M. Bulla Assistant Principal
