Mike Hodges in J E Holmes Middle School May 20 'Twas the night before testing Good evening families, To prepare everyone for testing, we want to remind everyone that student cell phones are not permitted in any test session to prevent any testing irregularity. Student cell phones will be collected before testing begins, securely stored in the testing room, and returned to students once the testing session has been completed. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Electronic devices other than cell phones, such as smart watches, tablets and any other devices are encouraged to remain at home. Our students and staff have worked extremely hard and we look forward to seeing what they can accomplish in the coming days.

Good evening, Mustang Families! This is Ms. Scales with your weekly message. Our Spring Chorus Concert will be held on Tuesday, May 19 in the MHS Auditorium at 7pm. Our chorus students have worked incredibly hard this year, and we hope you will join us for this special performance! EOG testing starts this week. Sixth and seventh grade students will take the Math EOG on Thursday and the ELA EOG on Friday. It is extremely important that all students arrive at school on time. All testing sessions will begin promptly at 9:00am. Students who arrive after this time will not be allowed to enter their testing session and will have to complete testing on the make-up day. Please be sure that students get a good night’s sleep and a healthy breakfast. Our students have worked hard all year and we know they will do a great job. Rockingham County Schools and Holmes Middle School would appreciate your feedback. Please complete the Title 1/Safe Schools survey in an effort to help inform school improvement. Tia Scales in J E Holmes Middle School May 3 Weekly Update for the Week of May 4, 2026 Good evening, Mustang Families! This is Ms. Scales with your weekly message. This week's athletics includes: May 6 - Track at RHS 7 - Baseball vs. WRMS (Home) We are excited to recognize our amazing staff this week for Staff Appreciation Week! With the support of our PTO, we will be celebrating our staff all week long. We encourage you to take a moment to thank your child’s teacher and other staff members for all that they do each and every day to support our students and school community. We may have missed Assistant Principal Appreciation Week while on spring break, but we made sure to celebrate this week!

We would like to take a moment to recognize and thank Mr. Hodges, for his dedication, leadership, and commitment to our school. His hard work behind the scenes, support of staff, and care for our students do not go unnoticed. We truly appreciate all that he does to help make our school a great place to learn and grow.

We would also like to recognize and thank Mr. Gore, who joined our team this year. Since his arrival, he has made a positive impact through his willingness to support others and jump in wherever needed. We are grateful to have him as part of our school community.

Yearbooks are on sale in the mornings and during lunch until spring break! The price is $40. Right now, we haven’t hit our goal yet… but we’re close!



Please remember that Friday, April 3 is an optional teacher workday. Students will not have school Friday as this begins our Spring Break. Monday, April 13 is a mandatory teacher workday, students will not have school on Monday, April 13. Students will return to school on Tuesday, April 14. We hope everyone has a fantastic break!

Weekly Update for the Week of March 23, 2026 This week’s athletics: 25 - Golf at Wolf Creek 26 - Baseball vs. RCMS (Home) Volleyball vs RCMS (Away) Girls’ Soccer vs. RCMS (Away) Beta Club inductions will be on Tuesday, March 24 at 6:00pm in the MHS auditorium. Looking ahead, spring picture day will be Wednesday, April 1. There will not be a make-up day for spring pictures. Parents, we are asking for your help with drinks being brought into the building. Energy drinks are not allowed at school. We are also seeing an increase in drinks from local businesses being brought in. These cups should not be brought into the building with students. Students should only have water in the classrooms. Thank you for your support with this.
