5th grade parents, Future Mustang Night is scheduled for Tuesday March 11th beginning at 6:00 pm. Please be sure you make plans to attend to learn important information about HMS classes and registration.
Our next PTO meeting will be this Thursday, March 13th beginning at 5:30 pm in the cafeteria. Everyone is welcome to attend.
LSE is working to support local agencies with the Annual County Food Drive. Students and families can bring donations to the school. Our school goal is to collect 1,000 items to donate. We are off to a great start. Please continue to help us support our community.
Go ahead and mark your calendars. We will host our Title I Student Success Night on Thursday, March 20th from 5:30pm-7:00pm. Students have been working hard to complete projects to share with families on this night. Our Spring Book Fair will also be open. Please make plans to join us on March 20.

This week is School Social Worker week! We would like thank Mrs. Lisa Barnett for all that she does for LSE! Our school community is lucky to have her.
Parents, please join us for the All County Chorus concert this Friday, March 7th beginning at 6:00 pm at Western Rockingham Middle School. We have several students performing and would love to see you there!
If you have a rising kindergartener please join RCS Thursday, March 6th at Douglass Elementary beginning at 5:30 pm for a kindergarten 101 session. Dr. Leslie Cassell will present important information to parents of rising kindergarteners. Please remember that your child must turn 5 on or before August 31st.

LSE is excited to participate in the Catch the Reading Bug event. Catch the Reading Bug is scheduled for Saturday, March 8th at Rockingham County Middle school from 9:00-2:00. We look forward to seeing all of our families at this fun event!

Don't forget! Tomorrow night (Tuesday, 2/25/25) is our Title I Guiding Stars Night at Food Lion on South Van Buren from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm! Students will learn about the Guiding Stars nutrition program and have an opportunity to win prizes. Parents and families will also have an opportunity to walk away with prizes. We can’t wait to see you on Tuesday at this event! An adult must be present with children.
We will also be kicking off our Food Drive tomorrow night! Students can start dropping off donations as they leave from our Food Lion Guiding Stars Night. Starting tomorrow, bring in canned foods to your homeroom for collection! The food collected is divided among various agencies to serve those experiencing food insecurity in Rockingham County. Donation deadline is March 26th! The top class who brings in the most cans will earn a hat day. The top grade level who brings in the most cans will earn a pajama day.

Parents, we have several field trips coming up. Please be reminded to attend a field trip with your child you must complete a background check and attend volunteer training at the school. Our next volunteer training is scheduled for Monday, February 24 starting at 3:30pm. This is a rolling session that will run until 5:30pm.

This week we will be celebrating Love the Bus. We appreciate all of our drivers and monitors and can’t wait to celebrate them this week. You can help us out by thanking a bus driver or any other staff that helps with transportation operations.
Our Battle of the Books team will compete in the elementary preliminary round this Tuesday, February 11. We are so proud of their hard work and we wish them well.
Parents, we are excited to celebrate the 100th day of school this Wednesday, February 12th. Please encourage your child to participate in celebrating this great accomplishment.

The PTO Booster Fundraiser kicked off this past week. The fundraiser will run until February 10th. Keep up the good work and thank you for helping support LSE.
Parents, please remember that our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders will be taking their second Check Ins this week. Testing is scheduled to begin promptly at 8:30 am on Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Our fifth graders will be taking their science check in on Thursday beginning at 8:30am. Please be sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and arrives at school on time.
PTO will be hosting a Skate Night at the Roll-A-Bout on Thursday, February 6. Please remember that students must be accompanied by an adult to attend.

Given the timing of these snow days falling towards the end of the semester and the EOC tests/ class exams that were scheduled to start for middle and high school students, the school board approved adjustments to our school calendar. Please see the updated changes below:
End of Semester moved from 1-17 to 1-22
MLK day, 1/20 - Holiday- No school
Student day 1/22 and 1/23
Teacher work days 1/23 and 1/24
Report cards issued 1/30
The summary is that we are moving the semester back five days and moving the required workdays from Tuesday/Wednesday to Thursday/Friday. We will still plan to our awards ceremonies as scheduled for the 30th and 31st.
