This is Lauryn Duncan, Principal at Douglass Elementary School calling with a few announcements for the week.
Doors will open for all students at 7:20 am and they may report directly to their classroom. Please remember that our tardy bell rings at 7:50 am each morning. Students arriving late to school must be signed in by a parent at our front desk.
Parents, progress reports will be sent home with your child this week. Please be sure to look over your child’s academic success.
Douglass Elementary PTO would like to invite all families to the Roll-A-Bout in Eden this Tuesday, September 24 from 5:30-7:30 pm for our first School Skate Night! Don’t forget to dress in your Douglass attire. Please remember that this is not a drop off event and an adult must accompany any student attending Skate Night.
Please remember that Friday, September 27 is an early release day. Students will be dismissed two hours early at 12:45pm. If your child is a car rider please be sure that their ride is here at 12:45 pm.
Morehead High School Student Council invites future Panthers to be a part of the Homecoming parade on October 11. Please contact Stephanie Ellis or Koury Gibson at Morehead High School for more information.
Parents, as a reminder Rockingham County Schools will continue to require approved background checks for any chaperone or volunteer within our school that has unsupervised contact with students. All background checks are handled online, including payment, no money is sent to school. More information about background checks can be found on our district’s website. This information is important as most of our grade levels have field trips scheduled during the fall semester.
I would like to thank everyone who participated in our candy bar fundraiser. Thank you to everyone who has turned in any outstanding candy money. We still have not received payments for 13 boxes of chocolate. Please know that all money helps support our students and their learning. If you have not turned in your candy money, please do so this week.
Lastly, our first Title 1 Curriculum Parent Night will be this Thursday, September 26th from 5:30-7:30 pm. Please make plans to attend as you will receive information regarding the expectations of teaching and learning here at Douglass Elementary school. We look forward to seeing our families on Thursday.

Due to the heavy rainfall, localized flooding and isolated road closures, Rockingham County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay on Wednesday, September 18th, Staff are to report at normal time, unless unsafe to do so.
Douglass Elementary had an amazing start to our Color Weeks! Students in PreK, Functional Skills, and Kindergarten are practicing color recognition by seeing students and staff dressed in a certain color each day. Mrs. Hope and her students were rocking on "White Day!"

Douglass Elementary has had a wonderful first week back to school! Our teachers and staff excitedly welcomed students for a great new school year. Mrs. Wilhoit's new class pet, a bearded dragon, even got his new name from students this week: Pudding! It's always a great day to be an Eagle!
