Tuesday: Winter Chorus Concert - 5:30 in the Auditorium

Thursday: Wrestling at Home; Basketball at Reidsville

Also this Thursday several of our students will participate in the District Science Fair at RCC - good luck to all our entries!

As a reminder, our SGA is collecting new, unwrapped toys for the "Toys for Tots" campaign through December 13. There are donation boxes in both lobbies!

Parents we will also be sending home a form this week in the event that our district ever calls a "virtual learning day." We are in the season for possible winter weather, and if they decide to do a virtual day, there will be a plan for that! Please, as always, call the school at 548-2168 if you have any questions! "Good evening Wildcats! This is Mrs. Wray calling with your Weekly Wildcat Message! This week we will have our first round of "Check-Ins" on Monday & Tuesday. All students will take their Math and ELA Check-In Tests so be present and be on time so you can show us what you know! Remember these tests are used to gauge students' understanding and help teachers know how to best help YOU!


This week in Wildcat Athletics we kick off Basketball season with home games on Wednesday and Thursday. Please remember there is a Clear Bag Policy and all fans will walk through the Weapons Detection System at all games.

Also, we are half-way through the second grading period, and midterms will be sent home this week. Please reach out to teachers if you have any questions or concerns!

Monday, 11/4: We hope all parents plan to attend the 'Report Card Pickup' event anytime from 4-6 PM in the Gym. Please come get your child's 1st Quarter Report Card and speak to all teachers in one convenient location! Snacks and drinks provided...we hope to see you there! (Also, due to the event in the gym, there will be no basketball practice on Monday!)

Tuesday, 11/5: No School for Students - it is a Teacher Workday

Thursday, 11/7: Fall Sports Awards at 6 PM in the Auditorium. This is for all Football, Tennis, Softball, Boys Soccer, and Football Cheerleaders.

Friday, 11/8: We will have a Veteran's Day Assembly - please invite any Veterans or Active Duty Service Members in your family to attend. Any veterans who are coming, please arrive by 8:45 to the Auditorium, and Thank you for your Service!

Please remember there is no school tomorrow, it is a Teacher Workday. When students return on Tuesday there are two important things to remember: 1) We begin our annual Canned Food Drive, sponsored by the SGA and 2) it is Red Ribbon Week! Here are the daily themes:

Also this Wednesday, October 30, is the first day of tryouts for Basketball & Wrestling. Wrestling tryouts are from 3:30-5:30 in the Wrestling Room, and Girls Basketball tryouts are right after school until 5:30. Boys tryouts begin at 5:15. Those trying out for boys basketball can leave and return at 5:15. Parents if you missed the Parent Meeting last week, and your child did not play a fall sport - please call the school to schedule a meeting time with our Athletic Director prior to tryouts beginning. Also please make sure your child has a current sports physical.

Looking ahead, here are some more important dates to mark your calendars:

Monday, November 4: Report Card Pickup event in the Gym from 4-6 PM. Come get the report card and speak to all teachers in one convenient location.

Tuesday, November 5: No School, Teacher Workday

Thursday, November 7: Fall Sports Awards in the Auditorium at 6 PM

Weekly Wildcat Message for 10/20/24:

Good evening Wildcats! This is your Weekly Wildcat Message:

This week our district will be providing a program called "Rachel's Challenge" to all middle and high schools.  An informational letter was sent home last week with all students.  A parent session will be held at Rockingham County High this Tuesday, October 22nd at 6pm to share Rachel's Story. The follow-up assemblies with students at WRMS will be held the following day, Wednesday, October 23rd.  Please contact the school to opt out of the program. 

This week in Wildcat Athletics our Tennis, Softball, and Soccer teams will all play at home on Monday.  If they win on Monday, they will advance to the championship games on Wednesday.  Good luck to all our teams as they finish up the conference tournaments this week!  

Parents if your child is planning to try out for Basketball or Wresting, there is a REQUIRED Parent Meeting this Thursday, October 24 at 5:30 in the Auditorium.  **If your child played a fall sport and you have already attended, you do NOT have to come to this meeting.  This is for parents of students who plan to try out and have not already attended in the fall.

And looking ahead to Winter Sports:  tryouts for Girls and Boys Basketball and Wresting will begin on Wednesday, October 30.  More details will be coming out about the times soon.  Be sure your child has a current sports physical on file before trying out.

This Friday, October 25 is an Early Release Day, students dismiss 2 hours early.  It is also the end of the first grading period.  And next Monday, October 28 is a Teacher Workday.  Report cards will be issued on Monday, November 4 at our annual "Report Card Pickup Event" in the Gym from 4-6 PM.  We hope all parents will attend and take this opportunity to get your child's report card and speak with all teachers in one convenient location.  

And one final reminder:  8th grade parents, if you would like to purchase an 8th grade Recognition Ad in the yearbook for your 8th grader, please visit the Jostens Website at www.jostensyearbooks.com to create and purchase the ad. The deadline to purchase the yearbook ad is October 27.

Monday/Tuesday: Our 8th graders have a field trip to the Rockingham County Courthouse (half will go each day).

Tuesday: 6th grade Science classes field trip to the Planetarium in High Point

Wednesday: 8th graders will participate in the annual "Health Screening" (to have vision & hearing tested) and there is also a Red Cross Blood drive on campus from 2-7 PM. Sign up to donate on the Red Cross website. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Thursday: Fall Picture Day! All students will have their picture taken for use in the yearbook, and if you want to order pictures - please see the order form that came home last week. You can also order online, instructions are found on the order form. Please order by Thursday if you want to purchase pictures.

Friday: 8th grade field trip to Knight/Brown Nature Preserve.

Also on Tuesday, All middle schoolers are invited to the McMichael volleyball game for "Youth Night" - all students get in free with a paying adult. Youth volleyball players will be recognized on the court with the phoenix!

This week, we want to encourage our students, staff, families, and Wildcat fans to consider donating funds to help with the relief efforts for those in the western part of the state who have had tragic and catastrophic damage from the recent hurricane. There will be donation "buckets" set up at all home sporting events as well as in the Main Office all week. We will also donate half the proceeds from our home concession stands to the relief efforts.

Looking ahead to next week: Fall Picture Day is on Thursday, October 10. All students will have their picture taken to use in the yearbook, but you will be able to order pictures if you wish. Order forms will come home soon!

Good evening Wildcats! This is Mrs. Wray calling with your Weekly Wildcat Message.

First, thank you to everyone who helped raise funds for our school by selling candy! And thank you to everyone who got their money turned in already. The sale is over, and there are still several who have not paid for the candy so please get that in this week! Remember we can not take back unopened and unsold boxes of candy.

We have another fundraising opportunity coming up - it is our Annual WRMS Homecoming Court! This is a fundraiser sponsored by our Athletic Department and students may sign up this week to be on the ballot. Students must be aware that if they are voted on the "court" it is a fundraiser and they must be willing to collect donations for our Athletic Department. Sign-ups are through Thursday, voting and announcing of the court will be on Friday.

Parents we are halfway through the first grading period. Students will be receiving their Midterm reports this week. Please reach out to your child's teachers if you have any questions.

This week in Wildcat Athletics we have:

Please remember there is a Clear Bag policy for all sporting events and all fans will walk through the weapons detection system upon arrival. We also have a new parking system due to the security measures so please follow the directives of our School Resource Officer when parking. When the side lot fills up, please park in the front, main lot and walk down to the field by using the sidewalk at the Gym. Students who stay after for the game should be picked up in front of the school, like normal dismissal.

As a reminder, our Candy Sale ends this Friday, September 20. Thank you to everyone who has sold candy already, we are down to only a few more boxes available to sell and we ask that you turn in all money by Friday! Remember any money turned in after Friday will not count towards receiving the prizes so be sure to get in all turned in on time.

"Good evening Wildcats! This is Mrs. Wray calling with your Weekly Wildcat Message.

Thank you to everyone who is already participating in our Candy Sale fundraiser! Students who have not yet received candy can still bring back the parent permission to get a box. As students sell a box, simply return the money envelope and if you want an additional box, the parent just needs to sign the bottom. Our sale runs through next Friday, September 20.

We hope you are all making plans to attend the McMichael Football game this Friday, September 13 for "Future Phoenix Night!" All WRMS students will get into the game for free, with a paying adult. The first 75 students to visit our table on the walk up to the stadium will get a free t-shirt and there will be other WRMS goodies on the table as well! Our 8th grade band students will be playing along with the high school band, our cheerleaders will be on the track with the Phoenix cheerleaders, and all students can run the field at halftime! We are looking forward to seeing you on Friday!

This week in Wildcat Athletics we have:

Tuesday: There is a REQUIRED "Fall Sports Parent Meeting" for any parent who has a child playing a fall sport. The meeting will be in the Auditorium at 5:30.

Wednesday: Soccer, Tennis, and Softball are all at Home. (Remember softball plays at McMichael). Games begin at 4:15. Please remember that when you attend any sporting event on an RCS campus, all spectators will have to walk through the Weapons Detection System, and there is a Clear Bag Policy. No bags of any sort (including purses) are allowed unless it is clear. More information about the Weapons Detectors and Clear Bag Policy can be found on our website.

Weekly Wildcat Message for 9/1/24:

Good evening Wildcats! This is Mrs. Wray calling with your Weekly Wildcat Message!

Please remember there is no school tomorrow, on Monday, September 2 in observance of Labor Day. Students return to school on Tuesday. I would like to thank everyone for a good first week back last week - and thank you for your continued patience as we work on making the mornings as smooth as possible. We are all getting used to the Weapons Detection Systems and it will continue to get better each day. We are planning to get a second set of detectors at the main entrance and that should alleviate the long lines when they arrive in a couple of weeks.

Parents and students we have our annual WRMS Candy Sale kicking off this week! Look for the permission slips to come home with students on Tuesday - and please return the permission to sell candy by Thursday. We start distributing candy on Thursday! The sale will run for 2 weeks and students can earn prizes as they sell candy to help raise money for our school.

This week in Wildcat Athletics we have Softball games at McMichael on Wednesday and Thursday. Please be aware that as you make plans to support the wildcat at any sporting event - RCS continues to have a "clear bag policy" and we also use the Weapons Detection Systems at all sporting events. Tickets to middle school games are $5 for all sports.

Looking ahead to the following week: Our 7th Annual "Future Phoenix Night" will be on Friday, September 13 at the McMichael Football game. Details will be coming soon but be making plans to attend! And speaking of McMichael athletics: Parents we ask for your help with something...in a continued effort to promote safety and security at all sporting events, please do not drop off middle school students at high school sporting events without supervision. A parent or other responsible adult should be with middle schoolers at high school games.

Good evening Wildcats! This is Mrs. Wray calling with your Weekly Wildcat Message!

We are looking forward to welcoming you back tomorrow for the first day of school! Please remember that bus routes, car lines, traffic, and the arrival and dismissal periods may be a little crowded and slow moving during the first couple of weeks. Thank you all in advance for your patience and understanding as we work out all the details! Just a few reminders about school starting tomorrow:

  • Students may be dropped off beginning at 7:45. Please do not exit the vehicles until the whistle blows and staff are on duty.

  • 6th grade car riders enter at the 6th grade entrance, and you will circle around behind the building (follow the gravel drive) and 6th graders are dropped off at the steps in front of your building.

  • 7th and 8th grade car riders enter campus at the main entrance, and traffic circles around on the right side and students get out on the sidewalk near the flagpoles.

  • For afternoon pickup - enter the same place you enter in the morning and we run two car lines exiting at the same time.

  • Students please remember you will walk through our new 'Weapons Detection System' every day upon entering your building. Please take out 3-ring binders or other items that we know will trigger the system. You will hand these items to a staff member and walk through.

  • A full list of items that are OK and those that will 'set it off' along with additional information about the systems can be found on our Website.

  • Students please also remember that while you may bring a cell phone/smart watch to school - those items should be put away inside your bookbag once you enter homeroom. We will not have them out during the day.

As a reminder: Any students who plan to try out for a fall sport - Tryouts begin TOMORROW, right after school for Football, Boys Soccer, Girls Tennis, and Softball. Tennis ends at 5:00, all other tryouts end at 5:30. Be sure you have a current sports physical on file before staying for tryouts! Remember to bring the necessary items for tryouts.

Parents & Students: Again this year, all students meals - Breakfast & Lunch - are at NO COST to students. Breakfast can be picked up daily in the lobby after students enter, and we encourage students to take advantage of the free meals at school each day.

Good evening Wildcats!

This is Mrs. Wray, principal at Western Rockingham Middle School calling with your first 'Weekly Wildcat Message' of the year. I hope you are getting ready for the start of the 24-25 school year. We

will send these calls home every Sunday night with information about the upcoming week. We will also send the message via email to those who are signed up to receive emails, and we will post the message on our Website and on Facebook. Please be sure you are receiving the weekly message in one or more of these ways each week!

This coming Wednesday, August 21, is our back to school Open House. You may come any time from 3-7 PM. 6th graders should walk up the steps and enter the 6th grade lobby; and 7th/8th graders should enter the main entrance into the main lobby. As you enter, you will see our newest safety measure - a Weapons Detection System that all students, staff, and visitors will walk through every single day. In the lobby, students will pick up their schedule and begin walking to each class to meet the teacher and get information about the upcoming year. Other things you'll want to check out during Open House:

- Mrs. Wray will hold informational sessions in the Auditorium at 4:00, 5:00, and 6:00 - please attend whichever fits your schedule best!

- For any parents who do not have access to Canvas - and we want ALL parents to have access - please stop in the Media Center to ensure you have access to your student's Canvas account.

- You can also pay the $30 user fee in the Media Center for the Chromebook User Fee and sign the annual agreement.

- We will have a table set up for Bus Information - please stop by and make sure you know your child's bus number and approximate pick up time (or to sign up for a bus if you need it).

- For those wishing to go ahead and purchase the PE uniform, you may do so in the Gym. Uniforms are $30. (Remember if the uniform still fits from last year, students can wear it again - no need to purchase a new one!)

As a reminder, School Breakfast & Lunch are at NO COST to students again this year, and we encourage you all to take advantage of this opportunity! And looking ahead to the following week, here are some upcoming dates:

  • The first day of School is Monday, August 26.

  • Sports tryouts for fall sports begin the first day of school. Be sure your child has a current sports physical on file at the school, or bring one with you before tryouts. Girls Softball, Girls Tennis, Boys Soccer, and Boys Football tryouts all begin right after school on the first day. Additional information can be picked up at Open House about each sport.
