School Improvement

G.S. §115C-47 (38) requires local boards to ensure that each principal establishes a School Improvement Team (SIT) in accordance with G.S. §115C-105.27 (a).

As per G.S. §115C-105.27 (a), schools must form a School Improvement Team to develop a plan focused on enhancing student performance. The SIT should include the following members:

  • The principal of the school

  • Representatives from the assistant principals

  • Representatives from instructional personnel

  • Representatives from instructional support personnel

  • Representatives from teacher assistants assigned to the school

  • Representatives from parents of children enrolled in the school

Representatives from assistant principals, instructional personnel, instructional support personnel, and teacher assistants must be elected by their respective groups via a secret ballot. Participation in the school improvement planning process by these personnel is a legal requirement.
