Draper Elementary School offers the following clubs for our students.
The Broadcast Club consists of students in Grades 3-5. These students read the morning announcements and lead the student body in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and the student motto. They also organize various activities throughout the year.
GO FAR (Go Out For a Run®) is a character development and running program founded in 2003 in response to the growing epidemic of childhood obesity. In North Carolina, over 30% of children are either overweight or obese. North Carolina has the fifth worst ranking in the United States for childhood obesity among 10 to 17 year olds. The GO FAR program combines lessons on healthy nutrition and good character with the use of physical activity to empower children to make better choices at an early age so that they can continue to integrate those changes into healthier lifestyles as they get older. The Rockingham County Partnership for Children will host the 4th GO FAR 5K and One Mile Fun Run on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Reidsville High School. As of February 4, our participating students began a 10 week training program for the 5K (3.1 miles). Our running club meets twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, averaging between 45 and 50 runners! During our practices, we train together, learn how to pace, discuss character building traits, and set individual goals for the upcoming race. We welcome parents, family, and community members to come out and join us, for practices and/or race day. You can learn more about GO FAR and access online registration at www.rockinghamkids.org/gofar. Please feel free to contact Draper's GO FAR coordinator, Christie Benton, with any questions.
